Critical Issues Forum: Working with Guardians ad Litem, Elevating the Experience of Survivors - Critical Issues Forum

Every month, the National Center on Protection Orders and Full Faith & Credit (NCPOFFC) will discuss critical issues and answer questions on protection order practice and related issues. Participants have the opportunity to connect with peers and NCPOFFC Attorney Advisors to talk about challenges, strategies, emerging issues, promising practices, and more.

On May 9, 2023 at 2pm EST, we will be featuring Ana Martinez-Mullen and Tracy Shoberg from BWJP’s National Legal Center on Children and Domestic Violence (NLCCDV). NLCCDV exists to improve safety for gender-based violence survivors and their children. They do this by centering the needs and lived experiences of survivors and their children and providing evidence-informed expertise to systems practitioners, advocates, and survivors. NLCCDV will focus on the critical issue of guardians ad litem during this forum. Guardians ad litem serve the best interests of the children in family court proceedings, as well as civil protection order cases. Their reports and recommendations to the court carry a lot of weight - but what happens when the recommendations don’t serve the best interests of the children and victim-parent? Ana and Tracy will discuss this nationally recognized critical issue and facilitate a discussion on best practices and steps to improve outcomes for children and victim-parents when working with appointed guardians ad litem.

Registration is required to participate in the discussion. We look forward to you joining us! Unavailable for this discussion? NCPOFFC is available to provide individualized virtual office hours via phone and Zoom.

We strive to ensure our courses are accessible to all participants. If you need accommodations, we appreciate two weeks notice to ensure we are able to meet your request. For any questions you may have regarding the accessibility of our content, please email info@ngbvlc.org
